“Coffee beans come from all these different places like Ethiopia, Peru, Colombia, Mexico, Guyana, Jamaica,” Yee told BLACK ENTERPRISE. “I do feel like it’s something that is really ours, but we don’t get to partake in the fruits of that labor as much.”

CUP isn’t just about java though. According to Yee, the brand is all about pushing for inclusivity and diversity in the coffee business and supply chain.

ABC News’ Linsey Davis speaks with Angela Yee, co-host of the popular radio show “The Breakfast Club,” about her new coffee shop dedicated to premium brews and inclusivity.

“A lot of my friends told me it wasn’t a good idea to open up a coffee shop because there were so many businesses shutting down,” the host of “The Breakfast Club” — whose shop, Coffee Uplifts People (CUP), is in Brooklyn — told Page Six recently, adding that many of her pals called her “crazy.”

A new Brooklyn shop, Coffee Uplifts People, has a mission — good coffee and positive social change in an industry with a checkered past. Angela Yee, co-host of “The Breakfast Club” and one of the most famous voices in American radio, is a co-founder of the purpose-driven shop.

Coffee Uplifts People (CUP) is a partnership between Yee and fellow co-founders Tony Forte and ​​LaRon Batchelor. The trio has a cultural mission to supply the highest quality coffee and coffee house experiences. CUP started as a line of coffee roasts in partnership with Brooklyn Roasting Company, but quickly morphed into a brick and mortar store thanks to the pandemic.

From co-hosting the nationally syndicated radio show “The Breakfast Club”,” to creator and host of the popular podcast “Lip Service,” proprietor of “Juices For Life BK,” and owner of “Private Label,” a hair extension shop in Detroit. Now, she’s opening a coffee shop in Brooklyn.
